Need help or have questions about the design, installation, use, or features of the bPhone for BlackBerry theme? You’ve come to the right place. Please read through everything carefully, and if you still don’t see what you’re looking for then feel free to post a comment down at the bottom of the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is bPhone compatible with my BlackBerry?
Take a look at the compatibility list on the download page. All 8100 series (Pearls), 8300 series (Curves), and 8800 series are supported. By “series” I mean any BlackBerry that starts with the first two digits, so yes, the 8130 is part of the 8100 series. The older 8700 series will work if you have the most up-to-date operating system — if you don’t, there’s a bug in the OS that allows the theme to be loaded even though it’s not compatible and it completely corrupts your 8700.

Why aren’t my fonts reflecting my own settings?
This is a limitation (or bug) in the way RIM implements third-party themes. Certain aspects of the theme get locked to the original theme font and cannot be changed by you, the user.

What’s the difference between the three versions (Zen, Icon, and Today)?
These are three variations in how the icons lay out. I don’t have any screenshots (yet), but most BlackBerries come preloaded with the same variants for one of their default themes, so you can see the different behaviors on those.

Some icons don’t match. Can you make bPhone-style icons for [insert application here]?
No. I have customized just about every single thing that the theme software will allow me to change. I can’t apply any more icons.

Can you make a version with a black background, instead of the fish?
You can change your own background anytime you want. An easy way to get an all-black background is to take a picture with your BlackBerry’s camera while holding your finger over the lens. Save that image and set it as your wallpaper.

Can you make the L-style theme, or the Zen style with the icons at the bottom instead of on the side?
No. The theme software only allows for Icon, Today, and left-side Zen templates.

When’s the next version coming out? Can you make a version for the new BlackBerry model?
I’ll only be able to make significant changes to the theme once an overhauled version of the theme creation software comes out. That tends to lag a bit behind new hardware releases, but I’ll do my best to stay current.

If you have any other questions, feel free to comment here or contact me.

There will be…I’m doing a Zen version next, as that has had the most requests. Then I’ll try a Today version.

Definitely looking forward to curve version. Have the pearl one now. Some changes I think that would be cool is make the time bigger like the iPhone and put the fate centered underneath. Other than that its perfect

Trying to reload the theme OTA to see if that makes a difference with the Google Maps menu bug. Other than that…this is the perfect theme. Thanks for your work.

It didnt work

8
Posted by Matthew, September 12, 2007 at 10:35 pm

@Joel:
I just noticed that too, it’s a damned odd bug. I’m not sure what’s causing it. I need to do some experimentation I guess.

Also, I want to post here some of the things I keep getting messages about:

- There have been a lot of requests for a bigger top banner with bigger time display and the date underneath it, like the iPhone. I initially didn’t do this because it is impossible to actually set the date and time text to center (they are left-aligned in their respective boxes), but for the next version I have arranged them like that and eyeballed it, hopefully making it look centered most of the time.
- No, I will not hide the carrier name. I don’t even think I can; as far as I know, items cannot be added or removed from the banner area, only moved around.
- Buttons: although more glass-like buttons would be cool, the way the theme editor works with repeating backgrounds for dynamically sizing the buttons leaves you extremely limited. I will try to dress up the buttons a little bit more, but not a lot can be done.

Look for a new version soon, along with a Zen release. If you’re having trouble downloading it from my site, please describe exactly what the problem is, what browser you’re using, and if you have a popup blocker enabled. Thank you.

Is there something wrong with the download links (both Desktop and OTA) on this page? Both of them point to the same target (http://rogersmj.com/tech/blackberry/bphone#), which just reloads the same page (this page). Am I missing something? I see comments from others that are downloading it successfully.

The theme looks great and I’s like to try it out!

NOT DOWNLOADING!!!!!!!!!!! WHY?????

Posted by gamesflash, September 13, 2007 at 9:25 pm

the download link doesn’t work

13
Posted by Matthew, September 13, 2007 at 9:30 pm

OK EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING TROUBLE DOWNLOADING:

The download system has been changed to longer use a popup window, which I think is what was giving some of you problems. Please try it now.

@Van Gogh:
Yes, those links (that end in the # symbol) were valid, they reference the appropriate javascript functions to open the file chooser popup via the onClick handler for the a tag. This is a standard way of doing javascript. I have reverted it to a different method though in the hope that it will work better for everyone.

Great Job!!! My 8100 now have your theme!
Is it possible that you will modify also the ring profiles and the bluetooth icons in your next release?
I know that could be an hard work!! just asking :-)

18
Posted by Matthew, September 18, 2007 at 9:58 am

@Paolo:

I actually do have some custom ringtone profile icons. The problem is, at least in the Icon theme, the system scales down the icon to put it up in the banner area. This distorts the icon and makes it look bad, and there’s no place in the theme editor to be able to define ringer profile icons that show up in the banner as different from the ones that show up on the Applications screen. For right now, I’m afraid there’s not much I can do about it.

As for the bluetooth icon…I assume you mean the Bluetooth configuration icon? Because I already have a custom Bluetooth on/off icon in there.

19
Posted by Matthew, September 18, 2007 at 10:00 am

@Luca:

I know, I don’t like the small icons either. But I can’t make them much bigger because of the way the side menu works on the home screen…if the icons are any larger, they’ll overlap. People who want the Zen theme I think are just going to have to deal with small icons. I think I can bump them up maybe 1 pixel, but no more than that.

20
Posted by Paolo, September 18, 2007 at 12:08 pm

Yes I was talking about the bluetooth configuration.
Thank you for your reply!

Matthew,
Great Theme, since empower came out with the BES Mailbox software I was wondering if you can setup on your next release the BES mailbox to showup on the main window on the Bphone Icon theme. I would like to keep my work icon on the main screen and move the personel email icon to the application screen. Or if you have a quick fix let me know.

Thanks

Larry:

I’m not sure what would cause that, except to note that all third-party apps I install on mine show up on the secondary screen as well. In the theme, I can place specific icons (Brick Breaker, Password, Activation, etc) in the secondary folder, but I can’t specify locations for additional programs, at least not that I’m aware of. I’ll look into it though.

Matthew,

Great work, really, you did a fantastic job on this. I loaded the 8300 version on my 8830 and it works without issue (other than a few icons don’t have a new look - not necessarily your fault).

I saw in the comments that you can’t specify the placement of 3rd party apps, can you specify the icon for them? I am asking, in particular, because of the google apps - mail, maps, talk… it would be great if there was a “new” icon for these… again, doubt it can be done for 3rd party apps, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks again!

33
Posted by Matthew, September 19, 2007 at 9:52 am

Dave,

I’m glad you like the theme, and it’s good to know it works on the 8830. I’m not familiar enough with the 8800 series yet, so I didn’t know if it was the same or not.

As for the icons…sadly, no, there is no way to specify icons for third-party apps. I did as many as I could for the built-in BlackBerry stuff. I had to make a lot of icons, and it’s very time-consuming. If there are more icons (for standard BB apps) that people would like to see, I’m open to requests. I’ll probably make one for the voice-dial icon, as that has been mentioned by a few people.

While we’re on the subject of icons, let me say something about the ring profile icons. I made some really nice looking iPhone-style profile icons, but I can’t use them because the themes automatically resize them and stick them up in the banner, and it looks awful. Until they have a way to specify a separate banner profile icon set, I’m going to have to leave the ringer icons the way they are.

Zen version rocks, too bad the 3rd party icons like google maps and bbweather cannot be themed too. Icon version OTA install did not work for me and I am awaiting the arrival of the Today version. Keep up the good work.

fabulous. worked great on my pearl, startlingly real! i feel i am using an iphone lol. (did desktop install for both as i was paranoid and wanted to backup phone first)

question - with the icon theme, i have 2 pages of apps but can’t seem to move them from one page to the other so they are stranded? i am using the zen theme for now unless you can advise?

50
Posted by Matt, September 20, 2007 at 12:07 pm

What are the differences between the Zen and Icon versions?

Thanks!

51
Posted by Dave, September 20, 2007 at 12:07 pm

@Matthew, I understand completely about the 3rd party stuff. In case you need it, here is a reference of the native icons that are not “iphone’d” on my 8830 (verizon):

voice dialing (you mentioned this one)
brickbreaker
password keeper
e-mail settings
setup wizard
profiles (you mentioned this one too)

I am not sure if the default load on other carriers (sprint…) is different for the 8830, so I can only speak for Verizon.

@everyone (with an 8703e)

…after my luck of installing on the 8830, I tried it out on the 8703 (using the 8300 OTA install) and ended up killing the device into an endless reboot cycle. No biggie, using this great guide, I recovered it, but save yourself the trouble and don’t try.

^ You cannot move icons between screens. That’s a limitation of the current version of the BlackBerry OS it seems.

53
Posted by Michael, September 20, 2007 at 2:15 pm

Ok, so i just put on the icon version on my Pearl- and it works great, except today is Thursday September 20th, and on my blackberry under the time it says Thu, Sept 2 but i checked my blackberry and the date/time is correct. Any ideas?

54
Posted by Matthew, September 20, 2007 at 3:08 pm

Michael:

It sounds like it’s cutting off the end of the date display, but I have no idea what that’s only happening on your device. Mine is showing the full date, and I haven’t heard a report about this from anyone else. If anyone else is experiencing this problem, please let me know.

55
Posted by Jim, September 20, 2007 at 3:52 pm

Sounds like you’ve increased the font size of your display. Lower it a little and you should see it.

58
Posted by Matthew, September 20, 2007 at 5:21 pm

Tobias: If you have OS 4.2 or later, you shouldn’t need the Plazmic Reader patch.

Clay: Did you reboot your phone?

59
Posted by Tobias, September 20, 2007 at 5:31 pm

Hi Matthew
Yes, I did reboot. I have the same problem as #57. Downloading it, but it doen’t apear anywhere… strange..
what should I do?
Thanks…

60
Posted by Matthew, September 20, 2007 at 5:38 pm

I don’t know, most people don’t have any problem. OS 4.2 or later makes it really easy…no additional software required. Just install the theme, pull your battery, reinsert the battery, and it should be there. If it’s not, then post your phone model and exact OS version and we’ll see what we can figure out.

Can’t wait for the 8830 versions of the theme, especially the Today version. Keep up the good work!

66
Posted by Chuck Angel, September 20, 2007 at 8:10 pm

One suggestion - if you could set it up so that any icons for other installed software that you haven’t created icons for (example: telenav) showed up with some generic “square with rounded edges” background so that they had the same look/feel of other iPhone style icons, that would be the icing on the cake. As it is, you see the majority of the icons in iPhone style and then the others tend to stand out like a sore thumb.

67
Posted by Matthew, September 20, 2007 at 8:26 pm

Tobias…unfortunately I’m not sure what the problem is with yours.

Chuck…believe me, I know the other icons stand out. As I already said, I *cannot* set icons other than the ones the theme builder allows me to. To compensate, I usually just move the ugly icon apps to the bottom.

I`ve downloaded bPhone using “over the air” installation method, after downloading I pulled back the battery of my Pearl, but the theme doesn’t appear on the theme list. I’ve reseted my Pearl twice and nothing…
In the applications list appears “com_plazmic_theme_bPhone_Today” version 2007.09.20.2126

What`s wrong?

81
Posted by Tobias, September 21, 2007 at 6:41 am

F****… (sorry..) I made a hard reset, and tried it again. I download the theme, install it on my blackberry (without the theme reader). I take the bat out and restart the blackberry. And i go to options –> themes.. There are just the 3 original thems there…. it doesnt work. Is it the software? the branding? Does anyone now this problem?

Posted by Chuck Angel, September 21, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Matthew, ref comment 67 above. I created a generic background (black with gray at the bottom where the current selected app name is displayed). Then, I put rounded edge boxes of various colors in roughly the same location that the icons you use are located (4 across/3 down). That allows any icons that don’t have the bPhone icons to now show up in the colored boxes on my background - the bPhone icons show up on top of those backgrounds. Although crude, it actually accomplishes the “feel” of bPhone icons for the apps that don’t have specifically created icons. My first attempt isn’t aligned exactly right and not perfect, but I’d be happy to send you the background for you to take a look at if you’re interested.

Hey there,

I’ve been trying your theme for half a day now and I must say it is the best one out there. I personally like the icon theme but when you develop today theme, I will certainly try it out.

Well, I was trying to put those “un-iphoned” icons in a folder so that I will only see those “iphoned” icons on the main screen. - but when I try to access the folder I created, it doesn’t show those items I droped in. Is this the way it’s supposed to be???

Also, I don’t think the profile icon issue isn’t such a big deal.. as long as you hide it and just use the short cut button to access it. (F)

Thanks alot…

Posted by owen, September 22, 2007 at 12:27 pm

Hey there, I’ve just wired you $10 because these themes are absolutely phenomenal. I only got my Pearl a couple of days ago and although it sounds sad, the availability of your themes was what tipped me right over the edge into going for it (well, apart from the good deal I got with O2 of course!).

Anyway, stunning work. I don’t have many 3rd Party apps, but the one I do have, OperaMini, takes up what looks like the entire space that a rounded Apple square icon background would.

I just wondered - is it theoretically possible to create custom icons for 3rd Party Apps and somehow set them to work from our end? You would do a ROARING trade if you could make that work somehow… :D

Posted by Matthew, September 22, 2007 at 1:15 pm

Nick,

A few people have reported that problem. I think it’s a bug between the theme creation software and the current OS. Unfortunately there’s not really anything I can do about it right now.

Owen,

Thank you for your donation, and thanks to everyone who has put a little something in! I really appreciate it!

Sadly, I can’t create or control the icons for third-party apps. You’re stuck with what the software creator gives you. On that note…

Chuck,

That’s a very interesting idea. I might try that out and see if it works, although it seems a little hackish ;)

Hi there,

is it possible to change the font?
I don’t mean the one for messages (through Options - Screen) but the fonts used in the messenger for example?

101
Posted by Matthew, September 22, 2007 at 3:07 pm

Unfortunately you cannot change the font. This is a limitation of the Plazmic software that has been present from the beginning — it only allows the font that the theme creator sets.

Why?
Can you help me?

I SO suck! I thought my blackberry was an 8800, but it’s an 8700c. I downloaded the theme for 8800 like a dummy and now my BB won’t show anything but an hour glass. I see above where you mentioned a perpetual reboot and I am wondering (before I screw up again), will those instructions also work for a BB that is power by a MAC instead of PC software? Also, when I take those steps and reinstall the OS, am I going to have an empty phone or will my contacts still be there?

105
Posted by Endo, September 24, 2007 at 12:36 am

Hey Matthew,

What are the limitations of this theme being run on an 8700 running OS 4.2.xxx? Does the Plazmic software allow for such an export or are the 8700 users SOL and left to drool instead?

Thanks,

Endo

I can’t find SMS on either theme. I love the Icon scheme - very iPhone but I’d really like to have an icon for SMS since it is the top-used function of my phone. Any chance of this being added?

Thanks

Posted by Matthew, September 24, 2007 at 7:45 am

Yasmin: You can delete anything through the Applications screen in Options.

Beth: If you’re using a Mac (not MAC, that’s something else entirely), you have to get access to a PC to perform OS upgrade/restore operations. I use Macs, but I have VMWare Fusion for the times I need Windows.

Endo (and anyone else who asks, because I’m not answering it again): I haven’t gotten to the 8700 version yet.

Seb: The icon for SMS is already part of the theme. I don’t know why it’s not showing up for you; I don’t have the power to add or remove things via the theme.

thanks for the reply and i am using the smaller icon version for pearl then as it seems i won’t be able to use the large one at present. thanks for this AWESOME gift to the e-Universe!

oh yeah. i wanted to ask you if big deal to swag out the zen theme to match the “t-mobile zen” theme which is exactly the same but the icon bar is along the bottom not the left. but as i say that i really like the way your theme has the words magically appear across the screen & also how you have the app button appear in the listing too so you can still use the ball to select all apps.

dude, you rock!

This theme is great! It looks much better than the other ithemes out these. Would you be able to make one with a different background, like some of the others with a black only or black Blackberry faded image? I am new to BB, so maybe background image changes are easy?

Posted by Phil, September 24, 2007 at 7:22 pm

Well, I am back to tell you that I finally got these to work in my phone. Just to update you, because you asked me to, I have a T Mobile, BB 8800, with an OS of 4.2.1.74.

All I had to do, it appears, was to download it through my phone, as the desktop install wouldn’t put it in my themes, even after several tries.

Good News for me and and a great big thank you to you.

Hello Matthew,

I know that you have not produced a version for the 8700. Based upon all comments here, you obviously have put in a huge amount of time to produce something that is greatly appreciated and wanted.

Do you have an ETA as to when you may be able to produce a version for the 8700?

Thanks in advance.

GREAT THEME….best iphone theme out there. Any way that you have other “iphone” wall papers that we can use?

115
Posted by Lars, September 24, 2007 at 11:43 pm

Thanks a bunch for the great themes…. I just installed the bphone today theme it is by far the most stylish and efficient one I have come across to date.

I have one suggestion for future releases: The “messages” “calendar” “phone” and “application” titles on the home screen tend to get lost when using a predominantly white background colour. If the letters of each of these titles were shadowed with black similar to the way in which the subheadings for each of these are, it would look slick!

Thanks again, and keep up the great work.

Posted by JESS, September 25, 2007 at 7:16 am

Is there a way to get the classic black background instead of the fish? It’s a little distracting. I downloaded all three. I like the icon the best. But if there is a way to change the background that you created, please let me know! Thanks!

117
Posted by Matthew, September 25, 2007 at 8:23 am

happy happy joy joy: I cannot make bottom-style (T-Mobile Zen-style) themes. The software doesn’t allow it.

MRP: Which version clips off the date? I can’t replicate the problem.

k3088487, scott, and JESS: You can always change your wallpaper…nothing’s stopping you from doing that. I’m leaving the fish in there as the default because I think it makes it a little more interesting, but the theme doesn’t prevent you from changing the background like you normally can.

Lars: I assume you’re talking about the Today version…I couldn’t give the letters a shadow. The only way the software would let them have a shadow is if I left the text yellow (yuck) like it is for the defaut Today theme. The theme creator software is very limited.

No ETA on the 8700 or remaining versions. I’m really busy this week but I’ll post them as soon as I can.

I downloaded the icon version 4.2 for the BB Pearl. Version number 2007.09.18.2301.

Hope this helps!

Posted by deejay, September 26, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Home screen text on the 8300 Today version is not very clear.
Messages, Calendar, Call Log, Applications. All other text is ok.

127
Posted by Matthew, September 27, 2007 at 12:02 am

Charles and deejay:
I have just uploaded a new version to address that issue. I had attempted to add an outline to the text because a couple people had said it was hard to read against light-colored backgrounds when it was plain white; however, the outline does appear to make it rather ugly looking. I went ahead and removed it.

Ray:
It took me a second, but by “lollipop” I think you mean the “OS X beachball”, the spinning wait cursor? If so, then no I don’t want to remove the gray box. The spinning cursor is a GIF, and GIF images can’t do partial transparency — either a pixel is transparent, or it’s not. This causes a problem with the beachball because it has a drop shadow, and without the box it looks horribly block against whatever windows or menus you have open.

Matthew, great theme. I’m using the Today theme for the 8300.

I have one problem though, not major. When the 8300 locks, the background image remains the original one from the theme (the fishes). When I unlock it goes back to the image I had changed to.

142
Posted by Matthew, September 28, 2007 at 2:20 pm

Tim: I can’t make a Today Plus version, that option doesn’t exist in the theme software.

Eirik: No way to change the font without RIM/Plazmic fixing their software.

Andrei: You can’t customize the lock screen on third-party themes, although it shouldn’t be showing the fish, it should be showing a metal grill pattern. Sounds like I left the wrong image in there.

Hello,

I just installed verion 4.2.1 then ran the App Loader to install your theme. Now my Blackberry 8700c keeps going to ‘hour glass’ screen. I’ve tried pulling out the battery but nothing is working. Do you have any fixes?

144
Posted by Matthew, September 28, 2007 at 4:18 pm

Tim K:

I’m wondering if there’s even a more specific version of 4.2.1 required, because the 8700 4.2.1.91 simulator I have runs the theme fine. As for fixing your phone, look at comment #51 on this page.

What exact version of the OS did you install? OS 4.2.1.xxxx? Also, which variant did you try to install? Icon, Zen or Today?

Posted by F lee, September 29, 2007 at 5:10 am

Excellent Theme, looks great on the pearl! Is there a way to change which 6 icons are displayed on the Zen theme main page?

146
Posted by Matthew, September 29, 2007 at 11:32 am

F lee: The Zen theme home screen should display whichever five application icons you have ordered first on your application screen. So if you go to the screen where you can see *all* your icons, and then reorder them so that the first five are the ones you want on your home screen, that should do the trick.

152

Nessa: You need to install it using the over the air option, directly to your BlackBerry.

Damien: See the previous times I was asked that question. It can’t be done.

Ira: I’ll be putting up a full wallpaper gallery at some point, as soon as I have the time.

Posted by rambo47, October 1, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Super looking theme! I PayPalled $10 immediatley after downloading it. One question though. When I select Agenda view in the calendar it goes to August 31st and I have to scroll to the current date to see my appointments. This happens in both the Zen and Today versions of bPhone. My two most current appointments show up properly on the home screen with the Today version. The monthly view on the calendar also works perfectly. It’s just the Agenda view that defaults to an earlier date.

154
Posted by Damien, October 2, 2007 at 12:14 am

Matt thanks for answering my question. It’s disappointing to see that the Plazmic software only allows this font, and not even the ability to resize it and smooth the fonts. I find it weird since this font isn’t even selectable in the fonts that come with the blackberry. I hope that the software is updated in the future and allows you to add more fonts to the theme, or at least change the sizing, etc.

155
Posted by bluehorseshoe, October 2, 2007 at 12:24 am

Awesome theme on my Pearl, however the time font is too big on the home screen and actually runs the ‘AM/PM’ off the screen because they are the same size as the numbers. Sometimes only the ‘P’ will show depending on what digits are on the clock, then it will disappear, again depending on the digits displayed. Sometimes the PM may show completely.

Any correction coming up? Well worth the contribution!

Posted by Matthew, October 3, 2007 at 7:57 am

bluehorseshoe: I’ll see what I can do, although I can’t replicate the problem so I won’t be able to test a fix.

Adam: Not really a bug, I’m thinking…more like yet another limitation of this custom theme creation software.

Chas: If you’re talking about the Zen version, that can’t be done yet. The horizontal Zen theme is unique to T-Mobile and is not available through the theme software.

James: That’s right. Menus, dialogs, and lists are not affected by your font setting.

Matthew,

Not sure if this helps, but I had installed the original version of your theme on one Pearl and it was perfect. I then installed the 9.27 version of your theme on another Pearl and that’s where the font issue on the time/clock came in. Not sure how to make the adjustment. The font on everything else is fine, just not the time on the home screen. The font seems ‘digital’ in which the numbers are thin, not bold, and run the AM/PM off the screen to the point where the AM/PM doesn’t display if the time is 10:32AM, but will display either the AM/PM if the time is 11:11AM. Numbers are thinner, so it doesn’t run it off. If you’d like, I can email you an image to show you what it looks like.

Let me know, and thanks again!

I want to try this theme again, but I am scared to death. This is a company phone and I have already played dumb once. I can’t break another phone.

Love the Theme. Just wondering, when there is wireless activity on the phone it covers the battery meter rather than the service signal is there a way to fix that? Other than that great theme!

182
Posted by Dave Cook, October 9, 2007 at 9:59 am

Thanks for a great theme. Use it on my BB Pearl 8100. Couple of comments if you will. The Pinwheel (hourglass) does not have a transparent background (as I’m sure you know). Just a gray box. Is a fix in the works? I’m using the “Icon” version of your theme. Also, when I need to use Symbols, the response time is pretty slow. Doesn’t act this way with the T-Mobile Zen or BB Dimension Icon themes. Maybe it’s an issue with the Plazmic. Not sure. Oh, and I know it’s been discussed to death, but if there is any way to create an icon for Profiles in the future, I for one would be very appreciative.

Thanks again.

D’Angelo: No, I cannot move the wireless signal indicator.

Dave: I appreciate the comments, but all the issues you’ve brought up have been discussed before. The pinwheel cannot have a transparent background because GIFs don’t allow for partial transparency and it looked like crap when I tried it. The symbols response time is probably due to some of the graphics I’m using, but there’s no fix that I’ve been able to determine. And you already saw my answer about the profile icons: not happening until Plazmic offers a way to specify a different set of icons for the banner. Trust me, it looks hideous right now when I put in custom icons.

Thanks for the quick response. May I suggest that you use the default hourglass in your next version since the pinwheel can’t be implemented properly?

Mathew: I appreciate your quick reply. I searched the comments on the Pinwheel and didn’t see anything, so I asked. Missed post #127. Any chance you would consider returning the wait cursor to its default form as an hourglass? Everything else about the them is perfection. It just seems out of place to have something, not.

Regarding the Profile icons, I guess I’m just being dense. Didn’t understand the difference between that and say, the Mail icon. In my mind they’re both system icons. Then I found post #18. Heh. Need to learn how to read I guess :P

Anyways, check your e-mail. You should have a PayPal. Thanks.

Dave: I have an idea for the indicator in the next version. It should allow me to get around the problems inherent to the pinwheel/beachball GIF but not force me to use the default one. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to post the next updates, but that’s one of the revisions on my list. Thanks for the donation!! :)

Thanks for adding that to your list - and you’re welcome for the donation.

note: can you delete my post from today at 11:28 am? It was from my BB and didn’t see it, so I ended up posting again about the same subject from my Mac.

Man I love these themes! can anyone tell me why the Zen and Icon themes will work on my 7130c running 4.2 and the today theme will not. I REALLY want the today theme to work.

Thanks

Hi Matthew

I didn’t realize before that when I posted something I was speaking to you. Anyway thanks for the great themes they are really nice and they are appreciated. I would like to make a donation and will when the wife loosens her grip on the checkbook …right now I am not supposed to spend any more money on the BB.

Can you help me with my question? It was the one that said the icon and zen themes work really nicely and I love them but the today theme won’t work no matter what I try. I am on a 7130c running 4.2.1. Can you help?

Thanks again for the nice work. A while ago I did make a donation to a developer and he never sent me what he said he would. It was very frustrating because his donation was required. So that makes me even more excited about your stuff okay u will zip it now.

Kevin

Kevin,

I currently don’t have any versions available for the 71xx series, which is why I would guess it’s not working on yours. I might be able to make one for those in the future once I get the remaining bugs worked out in the more popular versions.

Bummer…I will keep an eye out for an updated today theme and just enjoy the icon theme for now. Thanks for the response

Hi Matthew;

Thanks for such a great theme - using it on my BB 8830.

However, I’m trying to use a different .jpg for my home screen background. Instead of it zooming/expanding to fill out the entire screen, like my Verizon theme does, it keeps it at its native resolution, which leaves it in the middle of the screen with a large white border.

Do you know a way to make the picture fill the entire background, even if it is zoomed/distorted slightly?

cheers,
–Jay

Hi is there any chance that you will do the icon version with a black background like iphone.
Thanks,
Harald

Jay:

I don’t know of any way to do that. I’ve only ever used properly-sized JPGs as my wallpapers. You could just size the image appropriately on your computer and then transfer it back to your BlackBerry.

Harald: That’s been discussed before, please look through the above comments. You can always change your background on your BlackBerry, the theme doesn’t stop you from doing that.

Matthew,

For the first time I stumbled upon your themes and I love them. Where have I been? Great job!!!

I have a 8700 running v4.2.1.96

After installing all three versions (Icon, Today and Zen), the last one does not work. After restarting from the Desktop install, it displays “Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException”.
While highlighting ‘bPhone Zen’ in the Application Loader, I noticed “A user defined 8800 theme for version 4.2.1″. The other two themes show 8700. The details button shows a version 2007.09.26.1748.

Did I do something wrong? I’m sure I selected the correct platform in your download page. I tried this twice.

Mario:

Looks like I exported the wrong version or something. I can’t believe no one else has told me about this until now. Thanks for letting me know! I’ll try to get it fixed tonight.

Mathew,

I’m using the bPhone_Icon theme. The text size for Messages, Compose, Saved Messages, Address Book, Phone, MemoPad, Tasks and Options does not conform in my 8700 to the selected font/font-size under my settings.

Calendar, Media, Browser, BB Messenger, Alarm, Setup Wiz, Search, Set Up Bluetooth, Help, and Profiles do conform with the settings.

I thought I should mention this.

Mario:

That has been mentioned dozens of times. See previous comments; it can’t be fixed. It’s a bug in the theme creation software.

Nice work. Been using for two days and its really nice… just sent you $10.

I had to replace my Pearl due to a trackball malfunction. The new Tmobile Zen theme removed the application “list” and their new menu drove me nuts. Your theme is a great replacement.

One question… is there anyway to replace the screensaver background image? When I lock the phone, the grey background with black dots appears instead of my “desktop” background image. The older Pearl used the same image for both the screensaver and desktop. Not sure if this is a new Pearl “feature” or something controlled in your theme? As the phone is locked most of the time, it would be great to display an image. At one point in my long BB history, you could click on an image in the image viewer and select it as the screensaver image. That option is no longer available… another RIM “improvement” I suppose.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Rick,

Thanks for your donation!!

I think you hit the nail on the head…that is one of several things that are annoying about the way the RIM/Plazmic themes work now. I have to specify a lock image in the theme, and the option to set one of your own images as a screensaver on a third-party theme seems to have gone the way of the 7290 and 8700.

Matthew -

I figured that it was out of your control. Can’t think of why they need to bind that to a specific image. You’ve probably tried this but what happens if you don’t dictate a lock image at all? I don’t suppose it defaults to the desktop image? That may be to lucky.

Cheers for the quick reply. Keep up the good work

GREAT THEME!!!!

I’ve looked at the other iPhone themes and this is by far the best. The other ones always seem to lose focus on why we would want our BB to look like iPhones….’cause the screen icons are so beatiful and the overall screen is simple. I really like how you laid out the top banner bar. Much better than the other themes. Also really like the icons.

I didn’t really care much for the Fish homescreen image, so created a straight up black image that I use instead…..VERY COOL LOOKING WITH THE BLACK BACKGROUND…makes the icons really POP.

The only suggestion I can think of would be to drop the font 1 size or so smaller. I used to use the BBClarity Font at size 7 which for me anyway, was the perfect size. I find the default text size on the bPhone them a tad large.

Is there any way to make it use the fonts from the blackberry??

Also, it would be cooler I think on the BlueTooth icon in the banner to show an icon but only highlight it in blue when bluetooth is linked to something.

Thanks again for a great theme….I’ll definitely be sending a donation and recommending to friends!

I second Adam’s comments. By far the best iPhone theme out there. I also agree on allowing the user to set the font. I use the same BbClarity 7pt font and find the current font too large. Also, the font used for the header/search bar seem to mess up the header icons in the browser.

Excellent work, Matthew!

Ricky (#204): That made me laugh :) Not at you… just if you knew how extremely limited the theme building software is, you’d probably laugh when you read that too. I already feel like this theme is such a hack as it is, doing things themes were barely intended to do…there’s no way I could make a dynamic da
