The bPhone theme is no longer being developed. The bPhone for Bold beta was the last build created; I have since moved on to other projects. I deeply appreciate all the downloads and donations people have made, and knowing how many people enjoyed bPhone on their BlackBerries over the years has been the best part of all. Aside from being threatened by RIM’s lawyers. That was fun too.

The downloads that are up will remain up, but know that they will not work on most newer BlackBerry OS versions.

bPhone for Bold beta now available!

If you’ve got a BlackBerry Bold, you can now try bPhone on your device. There’s a couple known issues, like slightly goofy text line height in a couple areas. If you see any other *bugs* (not design change requests, those were discussed with the private beta testers), please contact me and provide as much detail as possible. Thanks!

Requirements

• Bold: OS 4.6 (default)
• Pearl (all versions): BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 or later
• Curve (all versions) and 8830: BlackBerry OS 4.2.2 or later
• 8800: BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 or later
• 8700 series: BlackBerry OS 4.2.1 or later. WARNING: You MUST have OS 4.2.1 or later or you may render your BlackBerry 8700 unusable! Go to Options -> About to check your OS version.

I offer no warranty and cannot be held responsible for anything that may happen to your BlackBerry as a result of installing this theme.

As always, donations ($1, $2, $5, $10) are much appreciated but not required.

Installation

Select desktop or over the air installation method (OTA is strongly recommended). For OTA, just follow the instructions when you get the email. If you must use desktop installation, unzip the file, then open up the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and install the bPhone files you unzipped as a new application for your BlackBerry. You may have to reset your BlackBerry by pulling out the battery after downloading the theme in order for it to appear in your theme list.

NOTE: If you try to use desktop installation and Desktop Manager says that no compatible software was found for your device, try OTA (over-the-air) installation. The version of Desktop Manager that some carriers are shipping (namely Verizon) does not match the operating system version on the BlackBerry, making the desktop software think there’s nothing compatible.

About bPhone

Inspired by the iPhone, bPhone for BlackBerry features icons straight from the iPhone in addition to custom-made icons that fit into the iPhone theme. The top banner is dark glass, the signal and battery indicators were created from scratch to mimic the iPhone’s, the “busy” indicator is the Mac OS X beachball, and there is liberal use of gray and blue (Mac and iPhone’s primary interface colors) throughout the theme. The fonts are set at a medium size.

I created this theme (in spite of the numerous iPhone themes already out there) to get myself reacquainted with the Plazmic theme building software after not having a BlackBerry for almost a year. I will be refining this theme as time goes on, in addition to creating fully original themes as I am inspired. I hope you all enjoy it.
