Two times zero = two

September 8, 2006

I could fill dozens of pages with the idiotic grammar and factual mistakes I spot in the paper or online news media every day. Today though, I’ll just pick one, because I just love it when reporters try to write that attention-grabbing first line, thinking they’re being really catchy or clever, but wind up falling on their face.

From Lafayette’s The Journal and Courier (I ran across this article when I was looking for reviews of local Thai restaurants):

“The number of Thai restaurants in Lafayette and West Lafayette has doubled in less than one year, going from zero to two.”

Well it certainly grabbed my attention — that reporter apparently never passed second grade math.
