Stargate SG-1 makes history, set for a movie
May 9, 2006
With the filming complete for its 200th episode, Stargate SG-1 has entered the record books as the longest-running scripted cable show in history. With 10 seasons, 200 episodes, and DVD sales second only to the James Bond movies, the long-running show owes its success to a tight-knit cast and crew, entertaining plotlines, and heavy financial backing by the studios — in the neighborhood of $2 million is spent on every episode. The 200th is set to be something special. From the aritcle:
“The 200th, a collaborative effort penned by the team of all seven writers, is an homage to fans of every stripe. If they’ve ever wished upon a Stargate, it’s likely covered in this script  a two-hanky ceremony brings Walter, the Gate Guy (the minor but beloved character who operates the stargate), to tears, and forbidden romances finally bloom.”
O’Neill returns for the 200th and one additional episode, as well as appearances on a three-episode arc for Atlantis next season.
The executive vice president of MGM has also hinted a big plans for SG-1; a movie based on the last 10 years would be likely, and could launch a third Stargate series.
